The big story of the legendary cities of the world

The first hill settlements in the area was host to the Palatine, then came the Esquiline and the Quirinal. From the fifteenth century BC, and more solid the tenth century, began the process that resulted in the creation of a true urban center, by the fusion of several scattered settlements in the area. Two or more settlements, they may have created a generic, unified probably just the legendary figure of Romulus.


The official date which traditionally goes back to the founding of Rome was established in the first century BC the historian Varro in 21 April 753 BC by Romulus and Remus, although other sources bring back different dates. Anyway back to that period archaeological evidence that the creation of a great necropolis on the Esquiline Hill to replace the makeshift burial sites scattered throughout the territory from the previous settlements in the area
