Tourism Tarquinia: cemeteries, sea and beautiful beaches
Strolling in the center of Tarquinia is like traveling back in time. Narrow streets, towers, noble palaces, all this is Tarquinia. In the historic Vitelleschi Palace, built from the fifteenth century, houses the National Etruscan Museum, where the finds are preserved in the nearby necropolis Monterozzi. Among the treasures housed in Palazzo Vitelleschi remember the many sarcophagi, funerary objects, and some frescoes from some graves and some important collections of Etruscan vases and jewelry. In the aforementioned Necropolis Monterozzi Etruscan tombs are about 150 (of which about 20 are visited), some of which are among the most beautiful and important Etruria. Among the many include: Hunter's Tomb, the Tomb of the Jugglers, the Tomb of the whip, the Tomb of the Lionesses, gorgoneion of the Tomb, the Tomb of the Leopards and the Tomb of Hunting and Fishing.
These are all painted tombs, or scenes of everyday life or with mythological scenes, and are the most important example of Etruscan art ever discovered. Among the other monuments of Tarquinia are: the Church of Santa Maria di Castello, which is the most important city, was built in the eleventh century in Romanesque style, has three aisles and is decorated inside with mosaics and numerous Cosmatesque works of art by local artists, the many towers that stand in the center, I remember a glorious and ancient past, the Church of Santa Maria Valverde, built back in the thirteenth century, contains a valuable Byzantine Madonna. Tarquinia however, is not only art and culture, but also fun and relaxation. In fact the city overlooking the Etruscan Riviera, which extends to the province Livorno and has equipped beaches, a variety of services for the local hotel and nightlife.
